Through a grant from the Stop & Shop Supermarket, UASEM was able to expand our smaller food pantry that was established by our Social Worker, Ms. Morera, to create the R.E.A.D.Y Room Food Pantry. The purpose of the pantry is to support our community in times of need and provide food security outside of the school day, during school breaks, and throughout summer months, creating the safety our students and families need to devote their energy and attention toward growing, learning, and thriving socially and academically. In the coming weeks, when we officially open the pantry, we hope to be the first NYCDOE school that will be certified by the American Heart Association.

another big issue we have been talking about Rising prices at the grocery store and made it more difficult to put food on the table for some families that is especially true for families with children in public schools here in the sitting was an issue for a while now the recent Polo from about 26% of City residents were unable to afford nutritious food over the past year Public School families were the most likely to be forced to skip meals for run out of food and Charlie at home how about this High School Manhattan trying to help out with the food pantry. Aqua Solution you're going to order more the urban assembly school for Emergency Management a public high school in Manhattan's are training to become emergency local technician how to take care of each other study in emergency medicine and Emergency Management for families are still reeling from the pandemic prison staff decided to care for each other's and nutrition shouldn't be an issue and this room right here represents the school year they created a food pantry for children and their families the room was still empty last month but a check was contained items set to be delivered by Stop & Shop the supermarket chain that is partnering with the school to stock the shelves or we're going to have some we're going to have like beans rice down here we're going to have some more canned goods it all started with a smaller food pantry just a cabinet that is school social worker decided to stalk with donations from staff and students just not big enough for our entire School community food insecurity is an issue among students and their families principal Rashid bility says from those in homeless shelters to those facing sudden setbacks including a student is placed by a recent fire now we have an opportunity to provide them with laundry urgent we have an opportunity to provide them with food and you don't sanitary napkins and things of that sort of meet their needs and in times of need. With items at a time when grocery prices are we expected to go up important that we have this resource available for our students since we don't know what I was with students are going through a school district is coming here to help other families in the community and in our school that needs help and students here hope others will follow their lead it could influence other schools in the borough and even in the cities to start food pantry like this in lower Manhattan Jillian Jorgensen New York they are so impressive I love what they say in this organized it looks really nice I know that is not the point of it but the way they taste
